Cozart® Rapid Urine
Q: Can the urine sample be stored prior to use?
A: A urine sample can be stored at 2-8 degress celsius for up to 48 hours prior to testing. In most workplace testing situations, the sample will be tested immediately after collection and will not require storage. If the sample has been stored in a refrigerator, allow the sample to return to room temperature prior to use.
Q: How quick is the test?
A:Once the sample is applied to the single panel cartridge, or the key is inserted in the multi-panel cup, the results should be at read after 5 minutes. Do not interpret results after 10 minutes.
Q: What should the temperature strip read?
A: The temperature label should be read up to 4 minutes after sample collection and it should be between 32-38 degrees celcius. The temperature is indicated by a green colour on the label.
Q: Should gloves be worn when handling the sample?
A: We always recommend wearing gloves when handling a urine sample for your safety and the integrity of the sample.
Q: What is the minimum sample volume for the multi-panel cup?
A: The minimum volume indicated on the cup is 20 ml. When the key is inserted into the cup, a controlled volume of sample will be released in to the cup.
Q: How should the kits be stored?
A: They should remain in the sealed pouches until you are ready to start the test. Store between 2-30 degrees celcius. They can be refrigerated, but Do Not Freeze. The kits should not be used beyond the expiry date which is printed on the pouch. Allow the kit to reach room temperature prior to use.
Q: Why does the multi panel test have a temperature strip?
A: The temperature strip is an important feature of the Cozart® Rapid urine tests as it allows you to check that the collected sample is fresh and has been recently passed.
Q: Can the sample be stored after carrying out the test?
A: Once the test has been completed, then the remaining urine sample can be stored for further testing if required or sent to our laboratory for confirmation testing. Samples can be refrigerated.
Q: How many drops should be applied to the single panel tests?
A: A total of 3 drops (100µl) of urine should be applied to a single panel cartridge.
Q: Are the results legally defensible?
A: The Cozart® Rapid Urine Tests are screening tests, therefore only indicate the presence of a particular drug class. All positive screening tests must be confirmed by GC:MS to be legally defensible.
Q: How do you interpret the results?
A: The results should be read 5 minutes after initiation of the test. A negative result is displayed by a coloured line in both the test (T) and control (C) line region. A negative result indicates that the drug concentration in the urine sample is below the designated cut-off level for the specified drug class.
A positive result is displayed by a coloured line in the control line region but no line in the test line region. A positive test indicates that the drug concentration in the urine sample exceeds the designated cut-off level for the specified drug class.
Invalid - Control line fails to appear, this could be due to insufficient sample volume or incorrect procedural technique. Review technique and repeat the test.
